If you want to have a professional solution which is powerful you should look after Fujitsu scanners, especially the ones for businesses (e.g. the 6000 series). These scanners are capable of duplex scanning, bring you a high scanning speed and a good document quality. You can also output the files as TIFF for further processing.

Thank you for your answer. We will start looking for a new Scanner to buy, but since we are a public institution the buying process is a little slow and bureaucratic, specially in Brazil.

We are using the Samsung CLX-6250FX to scan files.

What do you use to process the TIFF? This is exactly what I want, Scan as TIFF that have a high quality so I can restore the document if needed, but they are heavy so I want to convert the TIFF to a searchable PDF to send for people that request access to a document. We have to be transparent with the public information.

Actually, this could be a LetoDMS feature, upload a TIFF and the server generate a light searchable PDF =).

Since LetoDMS allows me to have Attachments I can have the main document as a TIFF and a PDF 150 dpi as Attachment.

I am using a Windows 7 machine with Xampp and LetoDMS. This was more easy to setup but I found some solution for linux like Tesseract-OCR and gscan2pdf.

I don't want to change to linux because the compatibility with the Scanner. I don't know if it will work on linux and I don't have much time to spend seeking for solutions =/. I don't have much knowledge to setup LetoDMS on linux either, Xampp's very easy to setup.
